The PC Strong Fund provides financial resources to cancer patients in need during the course of their treatments. We founded the PC Strong Fund after Paul went through pancreatic cancer treatments and surgery at TriHealth Cancer Institute. It was during those treatments that Paul observed the needs and challenges that some cancer patients faced above and beyond their diagnosis. Obstacles range from insufficient resources to buy gas, food, and prescriptions to the loss of employment and lack of health insurance benefits. The PC Strong Fund works in conjunction with TriHealth Cancer Institute and the Good Samaritan Foundation.
Thanks to our incredible donors, the PC Strong Fund has raised over $64,000 since its inception in the fall of 2021. We have countless stories of the impact the fund has had on the lives of patients. The fund has been able to provide more than 150 rides (via – Uber Health) to help patients get to and from their appointments in the past six months alone. The money has also been used to help pay for utility bills, gas cards, prescription co-pays, food cards, and in one special case, was used to ensure the possibility of having a future family for a newly married couple.
One of the biggest challenges cancer patients face is food insecurity. We are partnering with TriHealth Cancer Institute and their nutritionists on a new program called, “Jump Start.” The Jump Start program will provide high calorie, nutritional dense take home food packs to patients in need on treatment day. Food insecurity is an especially compelling problem for cancer patients, who may be forced to choose between food and other medical expenses. Cancer patients represent an especially vulnerable group because of the intensity of treatment protocols and the disease process itself. The decreased food intake and type of food directly impacts patient health and quality of life.
The TriHealth Cancer Institute serves more than 40% of all cancer patients across the Greater Cincinnati region. With 9 infusion centers throughout the region, they saw over 13,000 patients representing over 100,000 appointments in 2022. The PC Strong Fund plays an important role in supporting patients with financial needs. All funds go directly to patients and are managed and distributed by the social work team at the TriHealth Cancer Institute.
Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative. Together, we are making a difference!
